Black Owned Businesses to Support {Food + Beverage}

As a Chef one of the ways I’ve decided to support and advocate for racial justice and equality is through economic support of Black owned businesses. Yesterday marked Juneteenth in the United States. Like a lot of Americans, I didn’t really know about Juneteenth. It marks and celebrates the end of slavery in the United States because June 19th 1865 is the date that Texas was the last state to be informed as such of the Emancipation Proclamation (a whole two and a half years after it was issued!!!). Schools don’t teach much of American history as it relates to the Black experience and that’s part of why we have a long way to go towards greater uprooting of the systemic racism here. Going forward, I’m learning more.

I’m also using my platform here to encourage and generate support towards more economic equality by simply buying great food and beverage products from Black owned businesses. Tomorrow is Father’s Day and these all make great Father’s Day gifts. Put in an order and let Dad know his gift is on the way. Without further ado watch the video for a review of some of my favorite food and beverage from Black owned Businesses. Links to each store are listed below. The great news is you can order all these products online. That means you can enjoy these treats while safely sheltering in place.

  • Partake Foods: gluten free, vegan, allergy free cookies that taste AMAZING! Great ingredients and a sweet treat that both grownups and kids can appreciate.

  • Sol Cacao: quality bean to bar chocolate, made pure with two ingredients: cacao beans and raw sugar. The beautiful packaging makes this chocolate an elegant gift

  • Capital City Co: Summer time means BBQ! Capital City Co is famous for this Mambo sauce. I like the sweet hot!

  • McBride Sisters: This winery is built by two half sisters with a touching story and has a great energy. Their sparkling brut rose is one of my wife’s favorites but they offer a large and delicious selection.
