The smell of baked apples evoke warm memories across the seasons. From summer picnics to gathering with friends and family to share a Thanksgiving meal, baked apples tend to stir a lot of warm and positive emotions. This baked apple pastry recipe is simple to prepare and has exquisite flavors from the buttery puff pastry and warm apples tossed in honey and vanilla. There’s just a hint of sweetness in this baked apple pastry. Enough to satisfy your sweet tooth while not distracting from the natural flavors. From start to finish, this apple pastry dessert recipe will only take you about 25 minutes, making it a great dessert to serve when you’re in a rush. I’m already looking forward to late summer/early fall when we go to the local orchards to pick apples fresh from the tree. This is a dessert that I will definitely make. Baked Apple Pastry Ingredients

  • 3 medium apples (I prefer Fuji apples but you should choose your favorite apple or use whatever you have on hand), peeled, cored and halved. Lay the half sides open side down and slice.

  • 3 Tablespoons honey

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry, defrosted

  • 1 Tablespoon sugar in the raw

  • Optional: serve with vanilla ice cream or hand whipped cream

Baked Apple Pastry Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 F

  • lightly flour a clean counter top or large cutting board. Lay out to puff pastry and using a pizza wheel, cut the puff pastry into 12 even squares

  • Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and transfer the squares. Set aside

  • Place apple slices into a medium mixing bowl. Add honey and vanilla and toss well making sure each apple is nicely coated.

  • Layer apple slices on top of puff pastry squares leaving a border around the edges of each square. Sprinkle with sugar in the raw.

  • Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes. Plate and serve with your favorite topping (vanilla ice cream or whipped cream)

  • Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes, rotating the tray half way through the bake. Apples should be tender and the puff pastry golden.
