New Orleans Guide: Herbsaint Bar and Restaurant

Herbsaint

Address | 701 St Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA 70130

One of the great things about New Orleans is that there’s no shortage of great live music. We set to meet friends at Lafayette Square for George Porter Jr. and having arrived early took a walk around the area to have a glass of wine and share some bites. When we came to Herbsaint Bar and Restaurant on historic St. Charles Avenue we decided to take a seat al fresco. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy the evening breeze and people watch as clusters of groups made their way from work to enjoy the music at Lafayette Square. The menu offers French Southern cuisine and a solid wine list.

We ordered the Louisiana Shrimp and Fish Ceviche—cucumbers and Pepitas. This was a good dish, heavy on the chili powder but a nice combo with citrus and the pumpkin seeds gave a good mix of texture to the dish. My wife loves indulging in a good French fry so we ordered the French Fries with Pimenton Aioli. They had a nice crisp outside and tender inside and were well seasoned. I ordered one main, the Grilled Tuna Sandwich on olive bread with lemon pickle Aioli. The olive bread on this sandwich was a great touch, very tasty. Cucumber salad and chips were served on the side.

The service was friendly and helpful, the food tasty, and a perfect outdoor dining ambiance. The bar was packed at 5:30 and we were lucky to grab a table sans reservation so I would recommend that you make a reservation in advance.
