NYC Coffee Guide: Patent Coffee

Patent Coffee

Address | 49 W 27th St, New York, NY 10001

Coffee shop by day, speakeasy by night, today on our NYC Coffee Guide we’re headed to the Radio Waves Building in NoMad for a caffeine kick at Patent Coffee. We’ve been to Patent Pending on several occasions and when this week we found ourselves in the NoMad area in search of a morning cup of joe, we decided to give this NYC coffee bar a try.

To reach Patent Coffee you just head down the little stairway and into the coffee bar decorated with framed designs of the patents for various coffee machines and a wall lined with bright flowers. While they offer the usual variety of coffee beverages, we came specifically for one of their fall menu specials, the spicy boy. This coffee is made with Mike’s hot honey, espresso, oat milk, ginger, and cayenne. On a cool autumn morning in NYC, this spicy espresso will jolt you awake and warm you up all at once. It was creamy, spicy, and really good.

That being said, I did find myself needing a traditional coffee beverage after. The taste is intense and in my opinion might be better as an afternoon jolt than your first morning sip. My wife on the other hand really enjoyed it as her first cup so to each their own!

When in the area I would definitely return to Patent Coffee to give some of their other menu items a try.
