NYC Guide: KYURAMEN

KYURAMEN

Address | 315 West 46th St. New York, NY 10036 (all locations)

For an easy and satisfying ramen dinner in the theater district we decided to head to one of Kyuramen’s many worldwide locations. Kyuramen’s menu is centered on offering the three major ramen varieties, Shio, Miso, Shouyu. When choosing a ramen shop to dine at I always check the menu in advance to be sure that they have a vegetarian broth ramen option for my wife. Kyuramen does and that helped seal our decision to try their popular ramen bowls.

We started our meal sharing an order of Okonmiyaki—Japanese Style pan-fried pancake topped with okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, bonito flakes (katsuobushi), dried green seaweed (aonori). Their okonomiyaki was very tasty and I would return for this dish. It was nicely cooked on the outside but soft in the center which is the perfect textural combination.

For our mains, I choose the Kyushu Tonkotsu Shio—served with, Pork Chashu, Bamboo Shoot, Wakame, Half Marinated Egg, Nori, Corn, Scallion with black garlic. The ramen noodles were a nice texture and the Tonkotsu broth was smooth and not overlwhelming which I appreciated.

My wife ordered the Vegetable Ramen—served with, Carrots, Dried Tofu, Broccoli, Bamboo Shoot, Wakame, Nori, Corn, Scallion. Vegetable Broth. I availed myself of a bite and I like the bright and tasty vegetables and the broth. We were seated at the bar and there were little pots of cayenne pepper and other spices with heat that my wife added to her broth and enjoyed.

All in all I found Kyuramen to be a nice casual meal for some of my favorite Japanese eats. And with so many locations, you just might be lucky enough for one of the locales to be an easy dinner solution when you’re debating where to grab a bite!
