Philadelphia Guide: Beiler's Doughnuts

Beiler’s Doughnuts

Address | 51 N 12th St (located inside of Reading Terminal Market) Philadelphia, PA 19107

Hours: Monday-Saturday 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

When I posted a few pics of my Philly foodie adventure, a buddy shot me a message to make sure I hit Reading Terminal Market while I was in town. So, on a sunny Saturday morning with a list of suggested stops in hand, I made my way through the bustling market that is a chef and foodie’s paradise. Once you step into Reading Terminal you may be overwhelmed trying to navigate through all the options. My gut is to go anywhere where there is a long line. A long line usually signifies that there’s something there that’s worth waiting for. I wasn’t at all surprised to find that the eateries on my list all had a bit of a wait.

While waiting for the first order of food I put in (more about that to come later on my Philadelphia Guide), I headed over to Beiler’s Doughnuts to procure a bag of warm, gooey, doughnuts. Beiler’s doughnuts are made fresh daily on site. As you step in the winding line you can watch as the dough is quickly and masterfully cut, formed, deep fried, and dipped in dripping caramel, chocolate, and glaze. You’ll want one of everything but with dozens of options on the menu you’re going to have to reel your choices in. Here’s what I went with.

  • apple fritter: this was my favorite. It was soft and moist in the center and had a nice crisp and glaze on the outside. When you go to Beiler’s this is the doughnut I definitely recommend.

  • caramel cake doughnut: this was another favorite of mine. After the first bite I regretted not ordered some more cake doughnuts. Again, it was moist and the caramel was almost like a butterscotch. It had a really nice flavor.

  • classic glazed doughnuts: this was good but beware it was very fatty which isn’t necessarily bad but it’s a thing. Not my favorite thing.

  • chocolate mousse doughnut: this was the only filled doughnut I sampled (I wanted a Boston Cream but wires were crossed on the order). This doughnut was good but it didn’t knock my socks off.

  • cinnamon sugar cake doughnut: this is the go to favorite of my youngest son so we had to grab one and assess! It was really good, like I said the texture of the cake doughnuts were amazing.
