Pocono Ski Trip: Shawnee Mountain

Shawnee Mountain

Over the MLK weekend, Jack wanted to hit the ski slopes and head out for a little snow time. As you can imagine, a lot of the mountains and resorts are booked out months in advance on this particular holiday weekend. We came across a few last minute options and booked a little house in Stroudsburg, PA and headed to Shawnee Mountain in the Poconos. It was a great getaway and an easy drive from Sag Harbor and NYC where we picked up my sister and niece to join the weekend trip. We arrived at the ski resort early and the lines for our equipment were very short and manageable. As the day went on it got quiet crowded so I recommend starting your day early. Jack and I headed to the bunny hill first where I taught him my best ski moves and from there he made it all the way to the black diamond slopes with me. We broke for lunch at the resort where you can order giant pretzels, burgers, and salads. Nothing out of the ordinary but some fun eats for the kids. All in all, Shawnee Mountain was a good experience with accommodating and friendly staff, the trails are not very long but it’s good to hone in on your ski skills and gear up for the bigger mountains.

Stroudsburg is a really cute town and there was an Asian market that was great to hit up for some of our favorites. We did homemade pizzas one night and ordered Thai takeout but there seemed to be some cute dining options around. Before heading home we hit up Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop which was a big hit. We found the shelves stocked with candies and sodas of yesteryear. The kids were thrilled to try the warhead soda—and Chinese lays in flavors nori and rose petal in addition to some of their favorite gummies and chocolates.
