Aruba Guide: Glass Bead Making

Aruba Guide: Glass Bead Making

Terrafuse

ADDRESS | Turibana #14, Noord, Aruba

A great activity that our host organized during our time in Aruba, was a glass bead making workshop. Terrafuse opened in 2010 and offers workshops in glassblowing, glass bead making, kiln casting, and ceramics. The studio is located in an idyllic campus of small buildings where the workshops and gift shop are housed and colorful roosters and hens roam freely. When you arrive on Aruba, at the airport you’ll see 100 blue and green glass drops, “symbolizing Water as an important element on Aruba, blown at Terrafuse” made by workshop instructors Marian and Ciro.  After a tour of the campus, our group headed to the studio to create glass beads. Students work with Moretti glass from Italy and select the color palette of their choice. In the Aruba heat, working with the torch can get you working up a sweat, so be sure to hydrate with the water and keep your energy up with the snacks provided. At the end of the workshop students create key chains or jewelry with the beads they made. Classes are offered Mondays and Thursdays. We took the 3 hour workshop for beginners for $90.

After class, be sure to stop in the gift shop where you’ll find beautiful jewelry, and tree ornaments that make great gifts to bring home.
