BonBon - A Swedish Candy Co. is a popular candy store in New York City known for its wide range of Swedish sweets and you may have seen it on social media as it’s having a moment. Founded in 2018 BonBon has quickly become a beloved spot for candy enthusiasts in NYC. The founders were inspired by the Swedish tradition of "Lördagsgodis" or "Saturday sweets," where children typically indulge in candy only on Saturdays .
BonBon imports all its candies directly from Sweden, offering a variety of gummy candies, chocolates, licorice, and even their own line of gluten free, vegan, Swedish fish in unique flavors like Sour Elderflower and Sour Blackberry. With a hand full of locations in NYC—Lower East Side, Williamsburg, Upper East Side, and Red Hook—the stores are known for their pastel pink decor and meticulously organized candy displays, making it a visual treat as well as a gustatory one. We headed to the Upper East Side location to grab a golden scoop and try some of their sweet treats!
I recommend that you try the Salted Black Licorice a traditional Swedish favorite. This candy has a distinct salty and slightly bitter flavor that I love. The flavor is more intense than some candy lovers may expect but delicious. Of course, you’ll grab some of the variety of gummy candies that BonBon offers, including pink strawberry twists, yellow sour lemon lips, bright red Ferrari shaped, and pillowy marshmallow candies. These are are tasty and offered in vibrant colors and delightful textures.
