After a few days in Nashville, we started our road trip from Nashville to Memphis, a journey along Tennessee’s iconic I-40. The 212-mile route, which takes about three hours to complete without stops, is a favorite among travelers seeking to experience the vibrant music, rich history, and unique flavors of Tennessee. Along the way, Jackson, TN, is the perfect midpoint stop, offering a blend of charm, culture, and a damn fine cup of coffee.

Setting Out from Nashville

Starting in Nashville, you’ll find yourself immersed in Music City’s rhythms. From the Grand Ole Opry to the lively honky-tonks on Broadway, Nashville’s energy is hard to leave behind. As you drive westward, the scenery transforms. The urban sprawl of Nashville gives way to rolling hills and pastoral landscapes. It’s a peaceful drive, but after about 90 minutes, you’ll likely be ready for a break — and that’s where Jackson, TN comes in.

Located almost exactly halfway between Nashville and Memphis, Jackson is a small city with a big personality. While sipping on our Americanos, we couldn’t resist trying their gluten-free, vegan ginger cookie. It was a tasty bite: soft, spiced just right, and sweetened to perfection. The pairing of robust coffee with the gingery treat was exactly what we needed to recharge.

Continuing to Memphis

Refreshed and refueled, the second leg of the journey from Jackson to Memphis feels like a breeze. The landscape flattens as you approach the Mississippi River, signaling your arrival in Memphis. The city greets you with its legendary music scene, home to Sun Studio, Graceland, and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music. Since we were on a tight schedule we headed straight to Graceland…
