Spago Beverly Hills is one of the most iconic restaurants in Los Angeles, owned by celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, and we have a special connection because I was an opening sous Chef when Spago opened in 1997. It is a flagship in Puck's restaurant empire and a must-visit destination for foodies and celebrities alike. The restaurant's original location was on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, but it moved to Beverly Hills to appeal to a broader upscale clientele.
While I’ve featured Spago Beverly Hills before on this blog, our visit this past week was special because I got to bring my 15 year old son for his first visit and meal here. It was fun to introduce him to the space, and place, and some of the people who are still there making Spago such an exceptional culinary experience.
The menu at Spago is a fusion of Californian and Mediterranean cuisines with an emphasis on seasonal, farm-to-table ingredients. Wolfgang Puck is known for his innovative dishes that blend global flavors with California's fresh produce. The interior is sleek and modern, designed by Waldo Fernandez, offering an elegant yet warm ambiance. It includes an open kitchen concept, where guests can catch a glimpse of the culinary action. There’s also an outdoor patio that gives a beautiful, airy vibe. Spago has long been known as a hotspot for celebrities and Hollywood elite, especially during awards season. It has hosted numerous A-list events and after-parties.Spago is praised for its impeccable service, blending formality with a relaxed, California vibe.
If you're planning a visit, expect a fine-dining experience with bold flavors and high-end touches. It's recommended to make reservations well in advance, especially for dinner service.
