Moab to SLC Road Trip Eats: Tamarisk
On our roadtrip from Moab back to Salt Lake City, we decided to stop for an early dinner amidst the stunning desert landscape at Tamarisk in Green River. Tamarisk is a well-known local restaurant that has been serving travelers and locals alike for decades.
Strategically located along Interstate 70, makes this restaurant a convenient pitstop on the road trip between Moab and Salt Lake City. As you enter Tamarisk, you are greeted by a warm and rustic ambiance that perfectly complements the surrounding natural beauty of Utah. With large picture windows looking out to the water it’s a pleasant break.
We started our meal sharing a warm plate of Navajo fry bread served with honey butter and jam. For our mains we settled on Southwestern dishes. The grilled chicken Street Tacos served with cilantro, onions, sour cream, and salsa were enjoyable. Having built up an appetite after a morning spent hiking Arches National Park, I ordered three Enchiladas made of corn tortillas with shredded chicken, topped green sauce and cheese. They were tasty but a bit heavy on the cheese. Finally, we also enjoyed the Southwestern Navajo fry bread topped with red sauce, beans, cheese and avocados. This too had too hearty of a topping of cheese that had to be peeled off the top, so I recommend asking your server to “go light” on the cheese when ordering one of those two dishes.
After a satisfying meal, we made a little stroll through the gift shop to stretch our legs before resuming our road trip. Settled into our seats, as the wheels rolled, the landscape transformed into a mesmerizing canvas of colors, with the setting desert sun casting a warm glow. Driving against a backdrop of vast sandstone formations and expansive horizons and immersed in the tranquility of the fading daylight we let the rhythmic hum of the engine harmonize with the quiet majesty of the desert, until the light faded and the glowing desert landscape gave way to twinkle of city lights against a dark sky.
