Costa Rica: One Night in San Jose Hotel Grano De Oro

Costa Rica: One Night in San Jose Hotel Grano De Oro

Hotel Grano De Oro

Address | Calle 30, San Bosco, San José, Costa Rica

Our first night in Costa Rica, we landed in the Capital City (after two flight delays!), San José. It was 3:00 am when we arrived at the Hotel Grano De Oro. Despite the Concierge having waited many long hours for our arrival (we were scheduled to arrive at 10:00 pm), he and the hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful in arranging accommodations for retrieving our rental car the next day.

We booked the Hotel Grano De Oro for our San José overnighter because we were told that they serve an excellent breakfast menu in a gorgeous setting. Located in the heart of San Jose, Costa Rica, Hotel Grano de Oro stands as a quintessential gem among the bustling streets of the capital city. Steeped in history and exuding timeless elegance, this boutique hotel effortlessly blends old-world charm with modern luxury, offering guests an unforgettable experience in one of Central America's most vibrant destinations.

Originally constructed as a tropical Victorian mansion in the early 20th century, Hotel Grano de Oro has since been lovingly restored and transformed into a boutique oasis, preserving its rich architectural heritage while incorporating contemporary amenities and comforts. Its name, translating to "Grain of Gold," aptly reflects the hotel's commitment to providing guests with a stay that is truly worth its weight in gold.

Upon entering Hotel Grano de Oro, guests are greeted by an ambiance of warmth and sophistication. The hotel's intimate atmosphere is enhanced by its lush tropical gardens, tranquil courtyards, and tastefully appointed interiors, all meticulously designed to create a sanctuary of relaxation and indulgence.

When we woke up, I needed to rally with a pre-breakfast espresso. The room espresso setup is Cafe Britt. I thought that the machine brewed a very good espresso, as opposed to the Nespresso which I’m not really a fan of. In addition to its exquisite accommodations, Hotel Grano de Oro boasts an exceptional culinary experience that is sure to tantalize the senses. The hotel's renowned restaurant showcases the best of Costa Rican cuisine, expertly prepared using locally sourced ingredients and served in a charming ambiance that evokes the spirit of a bygone era. We enjoyed traditional Tico breakfast—fried plantains, rice and beans, eggs, and corn tortillas—and the salmon eggs benedict with mimosas while drinking in the sounds of morning birds. The Victorian Mansion converted to hotel is elegant with tropical plants, grandfather clocks, fountains, and antique furnishings throughout the interior and outdoor corridors. After breakfast we enjoyed a private soak on the jacuzzi terrace. The hotel also boasts a rooftop gym that we didn’t make use of on our short time but was well equipped. In your room you’ll find plush bathrobes for your post soak shower.

Despite coming in weary, frustrated, and frazzled travelers, we left Hotel Grano De Oro feeling like we had both our feet solidly in vacation mode. We were very happy and relaxed heading on to our next adventure…

With its ideal location in the heart of San Jose, Hotel Grano de Oro serves as the perfect base for exploring the cultural riches and natural beauty of Costa Rica. Whether strolling through the city's historic neighborhoods, embarking on eco-adventures in the surrounding rainforests, or simply unwinding amidst the serenity of the hotel's gardens, guests are invited to discover the magic of this enchanting destination.

In every detail, from its elegant accommodations to its exceptional service and culinary offerings, Hotel Grano de Oro epitomizes the epitome of luxury and sophistication in the heart of San Jose, Costa Rica.
