Easter Weekend
Hello everybody! This weekend was an exciting one spending time with family and celebrating the coming of Spring and Easter weekend. I thought it would be fun to film throughout the weekend and show you how we celebrated. A few things to note.
Easter Egg Hunt
The traditional egg hunt of running around searching for candy filled eggs didn’t appeal to my 11 1/2 year old son (don’t get me wrong, he still wanted candy filled eggs which we obliged by including in his Easter bag). Wanting to continue the egg hunt tradition, we came up with a more exciting alternative. We each had to search the front and backyard for 4 eggs with our initial on it. Once we completed that task, we could come inside to search for the golden egg with cash inside. A few “decoy dollar” eggs were placed inside as well making the search more exciting. We had a lot of fun with this game and will definitely make it a tradition.
Easter Menu
For our Easter meal we created a family style menu for the mains. For dessert, we decided to outsource and picked up a beautiful chocolate cake with crème brûlée filling made to look like an Easter egg. The mains included:
Asian Steak Marinade click for recipe I made this dish for NYE as well and it’s quickly become a holiday favorite that my sons love
Scallops and asparagus over carrot purée
Parsley potatoes
Cucumber, dill, and crème fraîche salad
Easter Entertaining Tips
This past week has been exciting because Lynette and I got our first shots for the COVID19 vaccine days apart. We’re still playing it safe and celebrated only with members of our household. One tip whether your hosting a small or large gathering is to invest in a big ice bucket. At the beginning of any celebration we fill up the bucket with ice and sparkling waters, San Pellegrino sodas, etc (photo below). The kids love grabbing a soda while helping in the kitchen or just hanging out in the main areas. So, I highly recommend investing in a large ice bucket for entertaining. It takes the work out of serving drinks.
Decor: this year we opted for balloon bouquets in bright spring colors for our main areas. For our dinner table we just placed the the eggs we dyed in white serving dishes. Once we placed the food and Easter gifts at the table it was pretty full so it was just the right amount of color and texture to set the ambiance. Of course, flowers are great addition as well.
