EATS: Mediterranean Moules Marinière

EATS: Mediterranean Moules Marinière

Here we are at the beginning of a new week and a new month—June—which heralds the new summer season. It’s the perfect time to share my dinner recipe for Mediterranean Moules Marinière with you. Moules marinière is a great summer dish. It’s very elegant with layers of rich flavors. This dinner recipe is fresh with bright citrus and briny flavors and a bit of spice and heat that comes from the garlic and shallots. This light dish will leave you feeling satisfied without feeling overly stuffed. And of course, one of our favorite things about the Mediterranean moules marinière dinner recipe is that it is easy to make—as long as you take care to prepare your mussels well. Let’s dive in.

Mediterranean Moules Marinière Ingredients

  • 2 pounds mussels ( Important tips to keep in mind: 1. likely your mussels will come in a plastic bag. When you place them in the refrigerator, be sure to open the bag so the mussels can breath. 2. all mussels should be closed. If you can squeeze an open mussels shut with your fingers and it holds closed on its own it should be good to use. Otherwise, discard any open mussels. 3. be sure to smell the mussels. If you detect a malodorous mussel, discard. One bad mussel will spoil the pot.)

  • 1 cup white wine

  • 2 tablespoons shallots

  • 1 clove of garlic, minced

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3 tablespoons parsley

  • Tablespoon olive oil

Mediterranean Moules Marinière Instruction

  • Rinse the mussels being sure to remove any grains or dirt. Using a sharp knife, remove the beard from the outer shell on each mussel.

  • Place a large pot over high heat. Add olive oil.

  • When olive oil is heated, add shallots and garlic, give it a stir.

  • Add the mussels to the pot, followed by salt. Mix ingredients together.

  • Finally, add the white wine and give everything a stir.

  • Cover the pot with a lid to allow the mussels to steam. Keep the heat on high.

  • Steam just until the mussels open up. Liquid will release from the mussels as they open and give the sauce a great briny taste.

  • Once the mussels begin to open, add the lemon juice.

  • Turn heat down to medium low. Keep covered and allow ingredients to cook together a little longer.

  • Final step is to add the parsley and stir.

  • Place in serving bowl and serve.

I enjoy serving these Mediterranean Moules Marinière with a rustic, crusty bread. The sauce is so tasty, you’ll want bread to soak it up and enjoy every last bite. Alternatively, a side of crisp french fries compliments moules marinière well.
