Bistro Été

Address | 760 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill, NY 11976

The month of June is chalk full of celebrations in our family and this past week we decided to celebrate my wife’s birthday with a family dinner at Bistro Été. Bistro Été is located in the Watermill Commons and boasts a large outdoor dinning area to enjoy long summer evenings as well as an indoor dining room and bar. A rain storm hit so our dinner reservation was moved inside to the intimate, low lite, and welcoming space. Bistro Été is owned and operated by husband and wife team Arie and Liz Pavlou. We were greeted and seated by Liz while Chef Arie busily manned the bar.

Bistro Été serves “coastal French cuisine” and delicious house cocktails. My wife—in a Bond mood—started with a classic Vesper Martini and later the classic Negroni and I had the smoked Manhattan. The cocktails were very tasty. Service begins with a basket of fresh warm dinner rolls and an herb garlic butter. We started with the Exotic Mushroom & Brie in Puffed Pastry and Wild Mussels—Saffron Cream Sauce, Ouzo & a Touch of Cilantro. The mussels were tender and delicious but be sure to ask for extra bread to sop the saffron cream sauce because, trust me, you’ll want that sauce! The brie was rich and creamy and tasted incredible, definitely a starter to share. For mains, my wife and I ordered the Catch of the Day, fluke. The fluke was fresh and served with asparagus and quinoa. Our son ordered the Steak-Frites—NY Strip Steak, Garlic-Parsley Butter, Potato Poppers & Simple Mixed Greens *GF except our house dressing contains nuts & soy. It was a hearty portion and Jack ate every last bite!

Finally, dessert! We ordered house made ice creams—Fresh mint chocolate chip and espresso chip and Jack had a banana ice cream sandwich dipped in dark chocolate. Lynette’s dessert was served with a birthday sparkler and the perfect end to a low key and elegant birthday celebration.

Overall, I really enjoyed the dining experience at Bistro Été. Although they were busy and a little understaffed, the service was friendly, the ambiance elegant and comfortable, and the food was very tasty.
