Iceland Eats: Café Loki
Address | Lokastígur 28, 101 Reykjavík, Iceland
Head to the “neighborhood of the gods” where you’ll find the streets named for the Nordic deities, Freya—goddess of love, fertility, battle and death; Thor—god of lightening, and of course, Loki—the god of mischief! Located across the street from Hallgrimskirkja, this is the perfect spot to enjoy delicious Icelandic cuisine with upstairs dinning surrounded by windows looking out to the church square, teeming with tourists.
For brunch we ordered an open face sandwich set of herring and egg on rye bread, brandade on rye bread, and house made rye bread ice cream. The sandwiches were very tasty and the rye ice cream was balanced and tasty. I had the cod with sides and the little had an Icelandic pancake (similar to a creme) with a fruit jam and cream. You can order the local delicacy hákarl (fermented or rotten sharkfin)—served with a shot of Brennivín liquor here. I wasn’t feeling it, but there were a few diners who braved this bite and shot combo.
