New Orleans Guide: Pêche Seafood Grill

Pêche Seafood Grill

Address | 800 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA

After our steamboat cruise was cut short, we headed to the Warehouse District to lunch at Pêche Seafood Grill. When you enter, there is a bar to the left, a dining room to the right, and beyond the dining room an open oyster bar. With tall windows and an industrial chic decor, it’s a nice cool space to enter into, especially on a hot day. It was packed around 2 p.m. on a Tuesday so you may want to make a reservation. We came sans reservation and so we decided to wait for our table over a cold cocktail at the bar.

The cocktail menus change, the cocktail on the right is the pink baron—sazerac rye, amaro del campo, apertivo,
grapefruit. The cocktail on the left is no longer on the menu but it involved tequila, grapefruit, and mint. Both were tasty and refreshing. The bartenders and guests were all congenial, so it was a pleasant wait and a nice way to begin the meal.

The portions at Pêche are large and perfect for sharing. As a side we ordered the Brussels sprouts with chili vinegar. These were roasted to perfection with a crisp char on the outer leaves and no overdressed. My wife really enjoyed the kick of vinegar. This was one of my favorite dishes.

The main event! When we entered Pêche we knew we wanted to share the seafood platter. The seafood platter featured large local oysters, peel shrimp, smoked tuna dip, seafood salad, and a ceviche. Served simply with saltine crackers, it was fresh and delicious.

Finally, we shared an order of hushpuppies. My wife grew up in Dallas and loves a good hushpuppy. I thought these were great. The crisp outside and soft center, savory with a little pat of honey butter, it was really tasty.
