SanKai (translation: mountain/sea)

When we visit the Seattle area, Edmonds is always a place where we spend a bit of time enjoying the dining a village shops. On our last visit we went with family to for a sushi dinner at SanKai. We scored coveted seats at Executive Chef Nakano’s sushi bar. We each ordered the 14 piece nigiri omakase, we enjoyed the fresh, classically executed nigiri presented to us that we continued ordering rounds until one by one—too full continue—we tapped out. We shared two bottles of sake, a sparkling Sawa Sawa—which was effervescent and lightly sweet—and Superior Junmai Gingo—which was nice and light bodied.

The desserts nicely finished our meal. We ordered the Opera Cake—layers of almond sponge cake soaked with coffee with ganache and coffee French butter cream. covered with chocolate glaze; the Coffee Jelly—Super popular Japanese conbini dessert. Topped with sweet milk; and of course Japanese Souffle Cheesecake.
