Atlanta Guide: Atlanta Breakfast Club

Atlanta Breakfast Club

ADDRESS | 249 Ivan Allen Jr Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30313

My son Jack loves good chicken and waffles so when we went to Atlanta the first order of business was finding Atlanta’s best chicken and waffles. Atlanta Breakfast Club consistently came up as one of Atlanta’s best breakfasts and so we hit it up. With a live DJ and a line out the door with more than an hour wait on a Friday morning in October, my first thought was that this is a scene. But, we didn’t come this far to only come this far, so Jack and I sped through Atlanta on electric scooters, stopping off for morning Joe and waited our turn to see if Atlanta Breakfast Club was worth its salt. Well, it was definitely worth the wait. Not the healthiest of menus but a nice hearty, southern breakfast to be enjoyed every once in a blue moon. Here’s a little sample of what we ordered.

Fried Green Tomato Biscuits

Fried green tomato, two over medium eggs, avocado puree & sweet corn "caviar" on two buttermilk biscuits.

My wife was working—we tagged along for the weekend portion of a business trip—but we decided to grab something to bring back and landed on the fried green tomato blt. Since she’s pescetarian, we asked to hold the bacon and add over medium eggs. I only had room for a bite of this dish but it was really tasty. The biscuits were perfectly flaky and absorbed the egg yolks nicely.

Chicken and Waffles with Peach Cobbler

Jack ordered the sweet chicken and waffles option. It was topped with cinnamon peach cobbler and generous amounts of powdered sugar and maple syrup. The chicken was seasoned well without being overbearing allowing the sweet and savory combination to work well together. This was so good Jack insisted on coming back Sunday for another order before our flight home.

Chicken and Waffles with turkey bacon, dirty gravy, egg cheese omelet

I opted for the savory chicken and waffles. If in reading the description you couldn’t already tell, let me tell you, this was an extremely filling breakfast. The gravy was seasoned with dried herbs, thyme and sage. The omelet was soft and light and all the flavors came together nicely. Be prepared to dedicate some time to the gym after this meal, you’ll need it to reset!

Cinnamon Roll

As a starter, Jack and I split the gooey cinnamon roll. The base was a bit flakey, almost like a biscuit, which was something different. It was tasty as well.
