Favorite Fall Finds for your Kitchen
While we’re still soaking up every last bit of summer, I’ve started thinking ahead about transitioning my kitchen for the fall season. I’ve curated a list of some kitchen items that I think really celebrate autumn, without turning your kitchen design into a grade school classroom. Avoiding over the top pumpkin prints and cutesy skull candy dishes, this list will help you enjoy the elegance and coziness of autumn without sacrificing your kitchen design and personal style.
Favorite Fall finds for your Kitchen: Scents
When you enter a room, before you really have time to see your surroundings, you’re smelling them. In the summer in our household we really love rose and lavender scents. For the fall you can indulge in nutmeg, pumpkin spice, and smoky tobacco scents and it will immediately transform your space. On days that you’re baking pies or mulling cider, your house will fill with the perfect seasonal aromas. For all those many other moments I suggest changing out your dish soap and hand lotions with seasonal scents. Williams Sonoma offers spiced chestnut and pumpkin spice sets. The set also includes a dispenser caddy keeping your kitchen sink area tidy and stylish.
In addition to changing out your lotions and soaps, keep a three wick candle on your kitchen island or dinning table like Threshold’s Whisky and Oak candle. In addition to scent the glow of the candle will give you that perfect ambient lighting.
Favorite Fall Finds for your Kitchen: Cookware
Fall is my season. I’m a November baby and played football growing up and in an unusual turn of events went to the Super Bowl as an Executive Chef. I love everything about this time of year. From sports, to holidays, and cooking those hearty warm weather dishes, it’s my favorite time of the year. When I think of cooking in the fall one of the first things I think of is pie. A Thanksgiving favorite but also a great dessert that starts popping up at brunch and Halloween parties. I suggest investing in a ceramic pie dish that’s not only functional but has an elegant design and a warm color for the season. The Emile Henry French Ceramic Ruffled pie dish in navy blue hits the mark on all counts.
After pie you’ve got to be prepared for all your cool weather soups, and stews, and chilis. Le Creuset makes beautiful and functional Dutch Ovens but they come at a hefty price. As an alternative try Crock Pot’s 7 quart Dutch oven. With overwhelmingly positive customer reviews this Dutch oven is perfect for your fall stews and soups and comes at the affordable price of $52.99. The grey color will bring some added warmth and autumnal vibes to your kitchen.
Favorite Fall Finds for your Kitchen: Serving Wares
The first thing on my mind come fall is football. You’ve got to have a great chip and dip serving bowl for those game day gatherings without sacrificing style. Target’s wood and ceramic chip and dip serving bowl has that warm woodsy vibe with the modern elegance of the ceramic dip dish contrasting. At $25 it’s a great item to add to your fall kitchen favorites list.
As the leaves turn, a lot of us put away the rosé and start uncorking those rich red wines. Why not invest in some stunning smoke grey red wine glasses to really create a cozy ambience on cool fall evenings?
Finally, a style must have for me are interesting coasters. Of course, functionally they’re important to preserving the integrity of your wood and glass table surfaces, but coasters are also a great design element to bring some added design and visual drama to your household. I really like the black marble coasters because they have a Halloween vibe without being cutesy. They’re also great post Halloween when they just look warm and elegant.
Favorite Fall Finds for your Kitchen: Functionality
Our last category falls into finding some functional items to bring the season alive. A change of seasons is a great time to assess your kitchen linen inventory and add, replace, or change it out. What you choose will depend on your style but I like the open kitchen towels gray set from Williams Sonoma because the gray accents and the pattern add a homey, warmth to even the most modern kitchens without detraction.
If you’re a long time follower, you know I tend to recommend switching out mugs and stemware each season. Changing it up just a little, this fall prepare for the cold weather and invest in a smart mug. With the Ember mug you can preset your preferred temperature and it will keep your morning cup of coffee warm no matter how many distractions—putting together school lunches, responding to urgent messages—your morning might throw at you.
