Hamptons Guide: By Bike

Hamptons Guide: By Bike

One of our favorite activities in the Hamptons is biking from Sag Harbor to Shelter Island. With shady tree lined lanes and a breezy short ferry ride in between it’s the perfect outdoor activity. Here are some useful tips for your Hamptons by bike adventure.

Pick up Bike Rentals at Sag Harbor Cycle. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. They’ll assist with fitting helmets and seat height. A four hour rental is $30 per person and only $45 for a full 24 hours. In the summer time I recommend going as early as possible to avoid the highest temperatures. If you go on the weekend, be sure to stop by Sag Harbor Farmer’s market right across the street to pick up some great local snacks.

Ride from Sag Harbor Cycle to the ferry. To board the ferry with bike is only $3 per person roundtrip. Be sure to bring cash but if you forget there is an ATM available.

At the end of the ferry ride, I like to stop for a pre-packed drink and snack at the beach next to the ferry before moving on.

Stop for a drink at Shelter Island Brewery. With local craft beers, large picnic tables, and board games it’s a great spot to spend the afternoon. The brewery offers some small bites but if you’re in the mood for a full lunch I recommend grabbing some nachos and tacos next door at Maria's Kitchen.

Finally, for literature lovers head across the street to Black Cat Books to find a new read.
