Hamptons Guide: Gurney's Montauk

The Firepit at Gurney’s Resort in Montauk is the perfect outdoor dining experience. Friends I made through my son’s school recommended Gurney’s resort as a relaxing spot with exceptional views for an outdoor food and beverage experience. Even though it’s only a 27 minute drive from our home in Sag Harbor, my wife and I felt in vacation/escape mode as we made our way through the posh resort, past their coffee bar and Scarepetta restaurant onto the sun enveloped deck of the Firepit. We lucked out with a warm and sunny day but Gurney’s Firepit is amply set up with space heaters and firepits at every table making this a comfortable outdoor experience under almost any weather condition. If it’s sunny, remember to bring your shades!
If you arrive early enough and have your pick of table, seat yourself directly across from the ocean view and watch the lapping waves as you sip on a sparkling wine and sample some small bites. I tried the pumpkin hummus (great concept could use a little more pumpkin forward flavor perhaps through the addition of pumpkin seed oil, but the flat bread was really nice); crab cakes, and a vegetarian dish of cauliflower tostada (featured nice Asian flavors ginger, soy, and seaweed salad). The small bites were great to peck on while conversating and enjoying the stunning views.
