Coffee Review: Colibri Mountain Coffee
As you know, I live and breathe great coffee. Today I’m excited to share with you a great small coffee roaster, Colibri Mountain Coffee. Lynette’s friend from grad school, Kelsey, introduced us to this new company and when I hear through word of mouth that there’s a great coffee we have to try, I try it.
Based in San Antonio, Texas, on their website Colibri Mountain Coffee writes that one of their central criteria for selecting coffee beans is that they are “committed to sourcing all our coffees from sustainable farms in Colombia”.
They’ve released three coffees to begin: Salpicon (fruity) El Dorado (nutty) and Cattleya (floral). We had a few coffees slated for delivery to our place this month so I started with an order for El Dorado and Cattleya. Both varieties tasted excellent. I preferred the Cattleya because it was really fragrant and complex and the floral flavor was unique. It was a good representation of the bean. The El Dorado was a nice coffee as well.
As always, I ordered whole beans and ground just before brewing (using my OXO BREW Conical Burr Coffee Grinder with Integrated Scale, available here) and I brewed with my Bodum Vacuum Coffee Brewer (available here).
This is a great small business for coffee lovers to support and I’m excited to see what they come up with next.
