Hamptons Guide: Wainscott

Hamptons Guide: Wainscott

A peaceful hamlet in the hamptons, Wainscott hosts a few shops that are essential to enjoy while spending time in the hamptons. I say that as both a chef and foodie. Just off the Montauk highway, you pull into a gravel parking lot and there you can walk to the three food shops that I want to highlight. I should also mention that Wainscott Main Wine & Spirits is located here as well and they have really friendly staff and an expansive array of rosé wines to choose from. That being said, let’s explore a few of my favorite foodie spots in Wainscott.

Hamptons Guide: The Seafood Shop

The Seafood Shop (Address | 356 Montauk Hwy, Wainscott, NY 11975)

The Seafood Shop is an integral part of my summers in the Hamptons for both professional needs and personal satisfaction. It is a small market and counter service restaurant specializing in, of course, seafood. They offer everything from oysters to black bass. Almost any seafood you’re looking for, they’ll have it. I recommend asking for what is fresh and locally caught to get the very best. They also sell fresh lobster salad and sides to go. The market has a small produce section with enough variety that it could be a one stop shop for your lunch or evening menu. Additionally the market has a small section of specialty spices and dry goods and I’ve found good Spanish items.

No visit to the Seafood Shop is complete without ordering some of their delicious dishes. Our favorites are the fish and chips, the slaw (love it because it is not overly dressed), lobster rolls, swordfish. Everything is tasty, classic seafood. It wasn’t until last summer that I tried their soup of the day and I was blown away. Their soups are layered with flavors and delicious and can satisfy you for an entire meal.

Of course, we always grab some oysters on the half shell. They also sell some dessert items and are known for their key lime pie which I personally haven’t yet tried but I’m sure it’s delicious.

Hamptons Guide: Levain Bakery

Levain Bakery (Address | 354 Montauk Hwy, Wainscott, NY 11975)

If you’ve ever braved the heat of NYC summer or the cold of NYC winter to stand in long lines for Levain’s famous cookies, you know it’s well worth it! Head to Wainscott to access all of the goodness and none of the long lines for Levain’s delicious cookies. Invented to give energy to its creators while training for a triathalon, these cookies require a big appetite. We buy a few and they last for days. Grab one of each cookie (chocolate chip walnut cookie; dark chocolate chip cookie; dark chocolate peanut butter cookie; and oatmeal raisin cookie). They’re all delicious and will satisfy your sweet tooth for a few days. Levain cookies are also always a hit to bring your host or hostess!

Hamptons Guide: Goldberg’s Bagels

Goldberg’s Bagels (Address | 358 Montauk Hwy, Wainscott, NY 11975 )

A definite tell that I am a New Yorker is my love of New York bagels and Goldberg’s Bagels is one of the best. They have locations throughout the Hamptons and one in Wainscott next door to the seafood shop. When we come in from Manhattan, this is typically the first stop Lynette and I make. My sons also love bagels so we’re pretty much regulars here through out the season and on the way in and out of town because bagels are a great food for road trip eating.

Tomorrow I’ll take you to East Hampton to tell you about our favorite beach, coffee, and our favorite, little bit higher end dining experiences.
