Iceland Eats: The Best Hot Dog
On every foodie’s Iceland bucket list is to stop off for a traditional Icelandic hot dog. What better place to grab this national treasure than at the self-titled best, Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur. This hot dog stand has attracted famed politicians and celebrities as well as throngs of locals. Open until 1 am, grabbing an Icelandic hot dog in Reykjavik will fit any travel itinerary. Served on a warm steamed bun, this is a snap hot dog (the casing makes a snap when you bite in) made of lamb meat. I went with the traditional Icelandic toppings of crispy fried onions, pylsusinnep (which is a sweet brown mustard), ketchup, and remoulade. I recommend to order as the Icelandic do for the authentic experience.
While I haven’t had a hot dog in quiet some time, this was a really fun experience and tasty too. I was out enjoying a night in Reykjavik and was pleasantly surprised to find Bæjarins open for a late night snack. I was also able to avoid the long lines that were visible the next morning so pro-tip, get your hot dog fix after hitting up some late night locales.
