Marrakech Guide: Dar El Bacha Musée des Confluences

Dar el Bacha Musée des Confluences

ADDRESS | Dar El Bacha, Rue Fatima Zahra, Marrakech 40000, Morocco

Entering the Dar el Bacha you’ll find yourself meandering ornate open-air corridors lined with pomegranate and orange trees. Built in 1910 this palace belonged to Pasha Thami el Glao. In addition to the stunning design and architecture, you’ll find art and archeological pieces on display. On our visit, historical pieces from Christian, Jewish and Muslim religious traditions were on display.

Following our stroll through this riad style palace, we visited the Dar el Bacha cafe for the ultimate birthday coffee date. Bacha Coffee was founded in Marrakech in 1910 and closed after World War II when the palace was shut down. It wasn’t reopened until late 2017 when the project “to restore the courtyard and adjacent private rooms of this listed historic monument, Bacha Coffee brought together numerous experts in their fields. Architects, historians and craftsmen of all trades worked together to preserve and revitalize Bacha Coffee.” The efforts of the restoration are spectacularly displayed through the wallpaper, light fixtures, seating and a spectacular glass roof. Bacha coffee specializes in 100% Arabica coffees. Their coffee menu features over 30 coffees from around the world. In addition you’ll have the option of a variety of fresh pressed juices and desserts.

Each coffee is poured from an elegant pitcher which remains tableside so that you can refill at your pleasure. Each coffee is served with fresh whipped cream and granulated vanilla beans. This cream is good in the coffee or to top off your desserts. When in Marrakech this is an activity that I highly recommend. It was certainly a birthday coffee to remember.
