Miami Guide: Los Fuegos Faena

Los Fuegos Faena

Address | 3201 Collins Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33140

Chef Francis Mallman—an Argentinian chef widely known for live-fire cooking—has seven restaurants in the world and only one in the United States. Los Fuegos in Miami. Prior to coming to Miami I was not aware that he had a restaurant outside of South America and so I was eager to book a reservation and step out one balmy Miami evening to give it a try.

The décor at Los Fuegos is very over the top with deep reds, golds, and the occasional leopard print. It’s a warm and inviting setting for a meal cooked by live fire. To drink we went with the wine flights which was a good option because you’re all set to enjoy a fine wine with each course. While Mallman is known for his grilled meats his fish dishes are equally as popular. Having really reduced my red meat intake I joined Lynette in sticking to pescatarian options. The octopus a la parrilla with potato confit, garlic aioli, kalamata olives and cilantro was nicely grilled and tender. For the main I was served the Mediterranean branzino (not pictured) and Lynette had the local red snapper. To be honest, the grill on the fish was a bit of a let down especially because of the popularity of Mallman for grilled meats and fish. The skin on the branzino was soft and I really prefer and enjoy it to be crisp. The flavors did all come together well though. We ended the meal with chocolate profiterole maiano which was delicious.

All in all it was a romantic evening with good food and wine. If you’re looking for ambiance and special night out in Miami Los Fuegos is a good place to start.
