New Orleans Guide: Copper Vine

Copper Vine

Address | 1001 Poydras St, New Orleans, LA 70112

I got to tag along on a whirlwind under 48 hour work trip to New Orleans with my wife over the past couple of days while Jack was away on his 8th grade trip to D.C.. Though the time was brief, I took full advantage of trying more of New Orleans’ culinary delights. With the help of a local chef and friend I was guided to the Copper Vine for lunch.

In the Central Business District, near the hotel we had checked into, the Copper Vine is located in an historic landmark two-story building with a quintessential New Orleans design wrap around balcony. Lush green hanging plants and wisteria surround the renovated space and since the weather was beautiful we opted to dine al fresco among the greenery.

Copper Vine is a wine bar and restaurant so they offer a good selection of wines and cocktails. I ordered the Txakolina blend which was a nice glass of white to enjoy on a warm day. We also ordered the Strawberry Spritz—Copper Vine NZ Sauvignon Blanc, St. Germain, lemon juice, simple syrup, pressed strawberries—which was light and fruity and tasted similar to lychee.

While you can select large plates we were interested in sampling several of the starters so we opted to share a few “small” dishes. The Louisiana Crawfish Beignets—Meyer lemon aioli, chow chow, were definitely the star of the meal. They were very fluffy and not heavy or greasy. The crawfish center was cooked perfectly. We also shared the Fig and Goat Cheese Flatbread—micro arugula and balsamic glaze. The crust was thin with nice air pockets and the balsamic glaze was very tasty. If you like cheese, you can’t really go wrong with a cheese board. We ordered the Fine Cheese Board—three cheeses, fig preserves, nuts, crackers. The cheeses were good but not exceptional. The Cajun Caviar Deviled Eggs The Smoked Gulf Fish Dip—white remoulade, fried saltines, house pickles, ikura roe, was another of my favorite dishes and I thought it was the best executed smoked fish dip I’ve had.

In addition to some really tasty food, the service was excellent and friendly and you couldn’t ask for more! I definitely recommend Copper Vine when in New Orleans and don’t pass up the crawfish beignets.
