NYC Guide: The Times Square EDITION
The Times Square EDITION
Address | 701 7th Ave, New York, NY 10036
Luxury, style, and sophistication in the heart of NYC’s iconic Times Square, the Edition offers an urban oasis. Guest rooms and suites adorned with chic furnishings, plush bedding, and lux amenities. Floor to ceiling windows offer panoramic views of vibrant Times Square. This past weekend a work engagement and some of my wife’s relatives coming to town brought us to another weekend in the city. Since the ladies were going to catch Hadestown on Broadway, we decided to stay at The Times Square EDITION hotel.
The check-in was smooth and all our pre-requests on our Bonvoy app (like a high level floor, early check-in) were accommodated. The design throughout the lobby was remarkable with chic floor patterns, minimalist sleek counters, and greenery created a sense of understated luxury and calm that contrast with the lively chaos of Times Square. We really enjoyed the design of the room. The colors are all neutral, primarily white and on the wall hung a framed image of Andy Warhol. Beyond the entrance to the room you could make out the bright lights of Times Square from the floor to ceiling window. The bathroom was stocked with Le Labo amenities, there was a well stocked refrigerator, mini bar, complimentary Boxed Water is Better, and most important a Nespresso machine with 6 coffee capsules (for that first morning jolt to get you to a proper coffee shop).
All in all we really enjoyed the room. The location was perfect for our needs—proximity to the evening show and a short walk to Central Park South where we had other engagements for the day. The design and amenities set us up for a pleasant weekend.
The Times Square EDITION Food & Beverage
The Terrace and Outdoor Garden
This restaurant offers all day dining brought to you by Michelin Starred chef and retaurateur John Fraser. This fact may set you up to believe that the food will be better than it is and spoiler alert, it’s very mediocre. My wife and her guests had a lunch date at the Terrace and Outdoor Garden. The pros were that the setting is beautiful light and airy with greenery hanging from the ceilings to the floor. While the server was very friendly and polite the timing was off in terms of when food and beverage would arrive at the table. The mushroom carpaccio was doused in too much vinegar, the lettuce leaves on the salads were wilted and the Caesar dressing lack luster. The cocktails were good and the “I LOVE NY” molten chocolate cake with orange was a hit. The ladies enjoyed the leisure of sitting and catching up but the food was just okay.
The Lobby Bar
When the ladies returned from their Broadway Show and I returned from my work engagement we decided to have a late dinner at the EDITION Lobby Bar. The food menu draws from what is offered at The Terrace and was even more disappointing in the evening. We ordered fried calamari that was limp and wet and inedible. Again, the salad was wilted. All in all, I would not recommend wasting calories with at The Times Square EDITION. If they up their dining offerings, it would make the overall stay at the EDITION hit that level of luxury that we enjoy when traveling.
