Paris Guide: Salon sur Cour, Versailles

A short five minute walk from the palace of Versailles is an idyllic courtyard with small specialty shops and restaurants, including Salon sur Cour.  We decided to rest our feet and enjoy some food and drink. The service was friendly and the pastry case tempting. While everyone sat to order a round of cappuccinos and a bottle of champagne, I carefully examined the pastries of the day and narrowed in on my top choices.

For pastries I settled on the pear tart and canelé. This French pastry is flavored with vanilla and rum. It has a custard center and a caramelized crust.  It's one of my favorite French pastries and Salon sur Cour's offering was delicious.

Lynette was craving something to cut the sweetness and so she added a croque végétarien to our order.  Our server was very accommodating, the kitchen was closed but she spoke with the cook who was willing to fire everything up again to make the croque. This was truly one of the best things we ate in France.  The béchamel sauce was perfect.

After enjoying some time chatting and eating we headed out into a beautiful sunset. We called a car for the drive back to Paris.  It was a great little day trip and after napping on the drive back we were ready for a traditional French dinner back in Paris. More on that in the next post.
