When planning my trip to Philly and this Philadelphia Guide, Pizzeria Beddia was at the top of my must try places. I’m still dipping my social toes and playing it safe by only eating outdoors at restaurants for now to keep myself and my family (and all of you!) safe. So, I was disappointed to find that all outdoor dining reservations for Pizzeria Beddia were booked. I signed up for notifications should anything open up, but it did not. I wasn’t going to throw away my shot—with accolades from Bon Appetit and Time Magazine I knew this was a pie I had to try. So I settled for a DoorDash delivery to my room at the Sofitel.

First, a rant against DoorDash.

I have to take a moment to complain about DoorDash. It’s not a service I’ve ever used and I’m not likely to use it again. The pizza pies at Beddia are not cheap, and the delivery fees for DoorDash on top of that, and a generous pre-tip (due to COVID), AND a 4 hour wait between placing and receiving the order (yes, plan to order well in advance), I expected to get my pizzas hot and fresh. Unfortunately, despite an address and detailed notes about the popular Sofitel Hotel in popular Rittenhouse Square that one would think any driver in Philly would be familiar with both, my driver was confused, lost, and late. The result was pies that had some warm and some cold pieces. That really pissed me off.

Now to the pizza itself

How I wish the pies had been hotter… even so, these were really good pies. I ordered the classic cheese pie and, at my wife’s insistance, the pizza arrabiata "angry” pie. The first thing that matters to me is the crust and it was good. It was a thinner style than I expected, cooked on a screen and had a nice crisp but was still foldable. The sauce was cooked (as opposed to Pizzeria Vetri) and really well balanced. The ratio of crust to sauce to cheese was perfect. The best slices were melty and warm. The angry pizza was our favorite. It was a little painful but you know, hurt so good. We couldn’t get enough.

Is Pizzeria Beddia worth the hype? I think so. I love pizza and these were really good pies. When in Philly, do yourself a favor and stop by.
