Philadelphia Guide: Rittenhouse Square
On our recent weekender getaway to Philadelphia, we decided to stay in the Rittenhouse Square area. The historic Rittenhouse Square is a public square created by William Penn. Its namesake to David Rittenhouse, American astronomer, inventor, and mathematician. The square itself is lined with tall trees shading the benches and the green. After a day of sightseeing, my youngest son and I stepped out of our hotel to grab a ball and spent the evening playing on the green. The square is surrounded by beautiful architecture, shopping, and lively dinning spots.
Where to Stay
We chose to stay at the Sofitel (Address | 120 South 17th Street 19103 Philadelphia). The hotel offers valet parking which is a must any time you’re in a large city. The service was excellent. I was traveling as a family of four, so I booked two rooms. The rooms are large and the beds are incredibly comfortable.
Start the Morning
My wife, the early riser, started the morning with a walk through Rittenhouse Square and stopped by Ultimo Coffee (Rittenhouse location) to grab a couple of Americanos with oat milk for our morning jolt. The coffee was good, I just would have preferred it to be a bit stronger on the taste.
We decided to treat everyone to a morning of sleeping in and ordered room service for breakfast from Sofitel’s Liberté Lounge. My 11 year old really enjoyed phoning the order in and practicing his French accent. The food was average brunch fare but the experience was fun. I did go for “second breakfast” at Reading Terminal shortly after.
