Before we get to my recipe for the crab + avocado grilled cheese recipe I want to take a minute to give a huge thank you to all of you voting for me for FAVCHEF and a chance to be featured by Bon Appétit. I know it’s a lot to vote every day but I’m so happy to see so many of you participating!

This video and recipe for crab and avocado grilled cheese is a little chef vlog/recipe style. I wanted to show you some of my favorite local shops near Sag Harbor to get some fresh ingredients to make the perfect grilled cheese with crab and avocado. I encourage everyone to support local and please, comment below on your local favorites, give them a little shout out and when I’m in your neck of the woods, I’d love to check some of your go to spots out.

Without further ado, here we go with the “grabaocado” (grilled crab and avocado) sandwich. Enjoy!

Crab + Avocado Grilled Cheese Ingredients

  • Two slices of quality bread. I used pickled rye from Carissa's Bakery in East Hampton. Sourdough bread would work well too.

  • 3 ounces lump crab. I went to my favorite in the Hamptons, The Seafood Shop

  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon zest

  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 Tablespoon mayonaise

  • 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter (to spread on bread and to grill sandwich)

  • 1/3 shallot, diced 1Tablespoon olive oil (for crab mixture)

  • 1 slice cheese, sliced in half (I used a smoked gouda vegan cheese alternative, but Swiss or gruyere cheese would work really well too)

  • 1 teaspoon chives, chiffonade

  • 1/4 avocado,

  • sliced kosher salt to season
