New Orleans Guide: Elysian Bar

New Orleans Guide: Elysian Bar

The Elysian Bar

Address | 2317 Burgundy St, New Orleans, LA 70117

After settling into our room at the Hotel Peter & Paul, we decided to have a drink and some light refreshment at the hotel bar, The Elysian Bar, before heading out to explore New Orleans. The Elysian Bar is connected to the schoolhouse by crossing an open-air courtyard and up the steps to the old rectory. The stylized bar room is decorated in deep reds and honey and amber woodwork, and the characteristic low lighting of the Hotel Peter & Paul.

Since we arrived to New Orleans on a warm Monday in July—not the high season for the big easy—the bar was quiet and we had our pick of courtyard, indoor table, or bar seating. We choose to be seated at the bar.

Ivy, our bartender for the afternoon, provided incredible service and makes delicious cocktails. We ordered

Linnea’s Garden—passionfruit, cappelletti aperitivo, bianco vermouth, sparkling rosé. It was garnished with a beautiful rosebud and was light and fresh.

ROFFIGNAC—rhubarb, raspberry shrub, cognac, orange, sparkling roséThis was nice and balanced, not too sweet and great for a hot day.

We didn’t want to spoil our appetite before dinner so to nosh on we ordered the beat tartare. Given the brevity of our visit, we didn’t make a full dinner reservation at the Elysian so this was the only food item from the menu we tried. It was a really nice dish, the fresh herbs and goat cheese gave layers of flavor to the dish.

After some good conversation and feedback on making the most of our time in New Orleans, Ivy made us a couple of House Spritz’s—aperitivo, club soda, sparkling wine, citrus, mint—to send us on our way take a walk through the French Quarter and on to our dinner reservation.
