New Orleans Guide: Preservation Hall
Address | 726 St Peter, New Orleans, LA 70116
There’s no shortage of excellent options of places to listen to some great jazz music in New Orleans. For our first night in the Big Easy, we headed out to hear the Preservation Hall Brass Band at Preservation Hall. Located in the French Quarter, from their first show of the evening until their last (performing 5 shows a night), there is a line down Saint Peters Street of people eager to enter Preservation Hall. You can—and I recommend that you do—book your tickets in advance. There are three tiers of seating options, front row seating, general seating, and standing.
Through the iron gate of Preservation Hall, you’ll be escorted into a small room with the band set up at the front and a few rows of benches and a designated space for standing. Each set is 1 hour and the hour goes by too quickly as the band pulls you right in. If you enjoy dancing, you may want to book standing space but of course, once seated you’re free to get up and dance as well. Note, there are no food or beverages sold or allowed in the show.
