Address | 41 Carmine St, New York, NY 10014

SullaLuna is an Italian bistrot and independent bookshop that brings the spirit of Venezia to New York City and this new West Village hotspot is becoming a fast favorite with tourists and locals alike. The shop features shelves of beautiful illustrated books and subtle European design, creating a unique cultural experience for visitors. Combining authentic Italian flavors and curated literature, SullaLuna is a haven for both food lovers and art enthusiasts alike.

We strolled into Sullaluna on a breezy early September morning—the perfect weather for a stroll in the West Village— for our 10 am reservation. It was a quite morning so we were able to sit where we liked. We selected a table at the open doors of the shop to feel the late summer sun while we enjoyed our breakfast. What we did not know is that the breakfast menu is rather limited offering only specialty coffee and beverages and croissants, all of them sweet. While we had expected a more extensive menu (they do offer a variety of Italian dishes for lunch and dinner), we adjusted expectations and ordered iced coffees with oat milk, a plain croissant and a croissant with mixed berries jam and cream. The coffees were excellent and the croissants buttery, flaky, tasty. I suggest the berry jam croissant which was delightfully sticky and good. The plain croissant had an orange syrup coating which was also nice.

In true European fashion, the servers at Sullaluna allow patrons to linger without rush, some lost in conversation, others lost in a book. Following your meal, enjoy browsing the selection of English and Italian language illustrated books and perhaps purchase a gift or two for the book lovers in your life!
