Hamptons Guide: Seven Ponds Orchard

Hamptons Guide: Seven Ponds Orchard

Address | 65 7 Ponds Rd, Water Mill, NY 11976

One of the best parts of summering in the Hamptons is access to farm fresh fruits and vegetables. For the Hamptons Guide series, I’ll do a round up of my favorite farm market stands. For today, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite summer activities which is berry and apple (in the late summer) picking. There are few beautiful locations in Long Island where you can enjoy an outing of harvesting your own fruits and berries. My family enjoys visiting Seven Ponds Orchard in Watermill. Offering easy to use maps/guide posts of where to find which fruit or berry, Seven Ponds Orchard gives visitors a large variety of options. Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, green beans, apples, pumpkins, sunflowers and more. Enjoy a few hours of foraging and filling baskets with from the garden eats that you’ll enjoy all summer long. On your way out you can grab seasonal treat including pies, cider doughnuts, candy apples.

Visiting Seven Ponds Orchard is a great summer activity for kids. They get to experience the source of their food and get involved in ways to use the haul when you return home.

While my kids tend to like pies and muffins, my favorite use of our fresh picked berries is to incorporate them with our breakfast, usually enjoying them in their freshest form on top of waffles, french toast, or oatmeal.

Of course every now and again we’ll fold the berries in with pancake batter. We usually pick more berries than we can reasonably eat so making jams and compote is a great and delicious way to preserve some of that berry excess. If you need a jam recipe this peach and raspberry jam is one of my favorites.

If you’ve never visited a farm that allows you to harvest some of your own food I highly recommend it. It’s a feast for the senses and an enjoyable activity.
